You're gonna miss this

Tonight my good friend Elise was over and we were just playin' and chatting. Then we started talking about how so many people are moving in a month or so, and then how many more are leaving in July (almost our entire building). Adam and I aren't planning on moving, but eventually we want to go to Boise, so we don't know how much longer we'll be here in Rexburg.
I always think and talk about how I want to end up in Boise, but when we were chatting tonight it hit me that in order to go to Boise, I will have to leave Rexburg. And that thought made me want to cry (and now that I'm writing this, I actually am!). It's funny because I can't even count the amount of times I've complained about Rexburg--about its snow, wind, hills, pedestrians, potholes, etc., etc. And I will still probably complain about them tomorrow. :) But the things that make this place so special are the people and the spirit that are here. I don't know when we will go to Boise, but whenever we do, I know it won't be without a few tears. There's this country song that I absolutely love that really helps me be grateful for this time in my life. Most of the time we think of these years as the ones to "get through" until we become rich and settled, but whenever Adam and I do move on, I really am going to miss all this, and all of you! Here are the lyrics...

"You're Gonna Miss This" by Trace Adkins

She was staring out the window of that SUV
Complaning, saying, "I can't wait to turn 18"
She said, "I'll make my own money, and I'll make my own rules"
Mamma put the car in park out there in front of the school
Then she kissed her head and said, "I was just like you"

You're gonna miss this
You're gonna want this back
You're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast
These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you're gonna miss this

Before she knows it she's a brand new bride
In a one-bedroom apartment, and her daddy stops by
He tells her, "It's a nice place"
She says, "It'll do for now"
Starts talking about babies and buying a house
Daddy shakes his head and says, "Baby, just slow down"

Cause you're gonna miss this
You're gonna want this back
You're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast
These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you're gonna miss this

Five years later there's a plumber workin' on the water heater
Dog's barkin', phone's ringin'
One kid's cryin', one kid's screamin'
She keeps apologizin'
He says "They don't bother me.
I've got 2 babies of my own.
One's 36, one's 23.
Huh, it's hard to believe, but ...

You're gonna miss this
You're gonna want this back
You're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast
These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you're gonna miss this"

I agree with everything you said!! The entire time I was in Rexburg I was counting down until we could leave...but then when we did it was so hard!! We made many wonderful friends there who now seem to be all over the country and I miss them! I miss walking outside my building and knowing every person. I miss all the little children that my kids could play with! Thank goodness for blogs so we can keep in touch! And I love that song, by the way!!

Kathryn, you are so sweet! I'm going to miss you! By the way you did an awesome job being the auctioneer at the enrichment night. You are too cute! I always count down the days too for leaving rexburg but now thats its getting closer, its sad and wierd to think about, traffic jams in utah and not having any friends nearby.

Awe kathryn!! I feel the exact same way you do. Matt and I always wished we could pack up our friends and move them with us. I think that is one of the best and worst parts of living in Rexburg. We made so many amazing friends over the last few years and then they all move away!! Don't worry if you move back to Boise Matt's parents live there (Meridian) so we are there quite a bit. We would totally come see you. Yeah for blogging!!!

You are so right! It is so sad when everyone moves away! I was just talking to another friend about the very same thing. We are always looking towards what comes next in life instead of enjoying what we have right here! The first time I moved away from Rexburg, I thought I wouldn't miss it, but then when I got married and moved back, I was so happy to see this place again!

It seems like just yesterday we were moving into UV and now Stuart only has one year left. I'm getting pretty nervous. As much as I moan about being here I'm really quite frightened to leave here forever.
I guess that's the good thing about blogging. We can keep track of all our friends and reminice about the glory days... *Sigh*

Good song... listened to it the other day for the first time and thought the exact same thing. Sometimes it's hard to think about how nice it is right now in life when we're so poor and there's not a lot going on, but at the same time, there's so much going on. You know I'll always be around to chat if you want... and you can come visit us (G. and I) anytime you want (that is if you have time) =D We love seeing you!

It's so true! Why do things have to change? We should build our own little community and put all our friends in it. Then life would be wonderful!

You speak my sentiment exactly. I used to cringe at the thought of ever "ending up" in Rexburg. Now, I would do anything to move back. I miss the spirit there so much. It truly is a "bubble" as I used to say, mockingly, but in a far greater way than I ever gave credit. The crime is low, the gospel is everywhere and the sprits are high. What a perfect "bubble" it truly is.

I have to admit, I love the lyrics to that song, but have never ever been a Trace Adkins fan. I don't really like his voice much at all. I think the song would be amazing if Rascal Flats sang it. They should steal it. Haha! :o)

I have to agree that when it was time to leave I was really sad. I mean really sad I had lived there for like 5 years. I do miss Rexburg at times but then you move and make new friends and life is still good!

I had turned to say 'hi' to you when the chastisment happened. Hmph! Yeah, I've not got too much to say about that.
We'll be back in September. We've been living in this apartment for 3 years now... Yep, not too thrilled to be packing up. Oh well.

I love that song! When I get sick of freezing Rexburg and school I think about that song too! You are such a sweetheart! And I'm glad you aren't going anywhere anytime soon!
